Did you know that most children in need of adoption are between the ages of 9 and 20? (adoptionstar.com) There has long been a stigma around adoption, particularly the adoption of teenagers, who are misinterpreted and labeled “poorly behaved” or “problematic.” In North Dakota, there are nearly 1,560 children in foster care; 271 of these children are waiting for adoptive families.

North Dakota Foster or Adopt has so many kids of all ages that need to be adopted, so it was very important to create a campaign that was accessible to everyone and represented all the age groups of the children in need of a new home. We also wanted to include information that debunked common misconceptions surrounding adoption, and even surrounding the qualifications someone needs to be an adoptive parent.

We created yard signs, social media content and direct mail. We made QR Codes that made it extremely easy for people to learn more. One of the most important aspects of this campaign was to put a positive spin on something that’s typically a hard conversation to have. To do that, we created templates for them that highlighted foster parents on social media and showcased the different ages and backgrounds of foster parents.
