Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), Threads, BeReal, etc. There are so many social media apps, but is it worth it to have them all?! Nope! It’s not worth trying to come up with content for multiple social media platforms, especially, if your target audience isn't on that platform. After working and helping clients find the right platforms for their business, it has become apparent that there are three extremely important factors to think about when creating business social pages. Competitors Seeing what platforms and looking at the amount of engagement they are getting on their platforms is a good place to start. If your competitors are getting high traction on that social platform, then that is where your target audience is most likely to be. If it is low engagement for them on posts or they don't even have a profile, it is fair to assume your audience is not on that platform, making it a waste of time for you to create an account for your business and produce content on the platform. Demographics Tell me a bit about your target audience. What is their age, gender affiliation, education level, marital status, where are they located, and what is their job title? Once you have the answers to the majority of these questions, you can now do some research on specific social media platforms to see which ones best fit your needs and the platform your target audience is on. Social Plans and Goals One of the last factors to consider when creating social media pages is, what are your goals when it comes to posting? Are you going to be posting a few times a week on each platform? Once a week on each platform? Who will be the one coming up with content, editing, and posting? These factors are critical to think about when creating social media platforms because you do not want your social media to flop. It is important to continue posting and staying engaged with your audience in order to keep your platforms thriving. Now, going into creating your account(s), do you feel confident? Are you going to be able to stay engaged with your followers? If not, that is okay. Take your time to do research and come up with a solid plan for what you would like to see happen with your socials.
